Things We See and Why?

This is a taxi driver. They generally wear a yellow or purple vest. I am not sure if the vest signifies their gang or company. We have yet to see any Purple Vs. Yellow Vest rumbles in the streets, and I have seen some purp/yellow intermingling, so I am gonna assume certain Taxi Drivers favor the color purple or "See Muang" and some enjoy Yellow. I have taken a taxi on a few occassions. It cost me roughly 20 baht ( 70 or so cents) to go about 3/4 Kilometer (about half a mile). It was quite enjoyable. You really learn a lot about a complete stranger sandwiched between your thighs.
P.S. If you ever end up watching the Whoopi Goldberg epic that is the Color Purple, impress your friends by letting them know, "In Thailand, they would call this movie See Muang". It will surely blow their fragile minds.
Sung Thaew (Beepinus Hornicus Maximus)
"BEEP BEEP" That is the sound you hear when one of these little guys approaches. They will take you a bit further outside of town than the taxis will for very cheap. They take you to Ao Nang (the Beach) and they will take you to their Wal-Mart type stores called Tesco Lotus and The Big C. We took one from the Chiang Mai train station when we first arrived. It was fun. They are highly annoying, but you grow to ignore their squeakiness.
Show/Song Bird (Howthecagebirdicus Sings)
These are outside most businesses in town. They are purchased and transported on motorbike with a little clothe over the cage not to frighten the little guys. They are very pretty and sing a lot. They are usually fed a little banana in their cage. They are neat, but it is also kinda sad.
Apparently they have judges come around and check out the birds and see who has the best bird. The winner gets a Saved By The Bell DVD Set. Jk- I know nothing about these contests.
Parking Lot (Motorbike Hangouticus)
This is a parking lot. Very few cars in this city, mostly bikes. Its pretty easy to find a spot with a bike considering there is not much of a law against parking or anything regarding transportation, so you can park anywhere.
Our Bike (Straight Pimpimus)
This is our bike. It generally cruises at altitudes of 2 meters above sea level at a average of 50 Kilometers per hour. It purs like a kitty.
The traffic Light
This is one of the 3 traffic lights in town. Pretty serious.
My War Helmet and Shady Glasses- (Creepiness Maximus)
I enjoy cruising around town in my WW2 bike helmet and fake Ray Ban Shades. Maris has a redbull helmet as you can see.
My View
This is what I see when I am kicking ass down the street on the bike.
That is all for the first installment of "Things We See and Why"
I took this photo about 3 weeks ago. I left out tons of names, I realize that. So don't think I don't love you if you aren't listed.
Also- here are some photos I really like.
Til Next time, or the next installment of "Things we see and Why?"

The Beginning
The Beginning
I am a 25 year old, southern Gent. I've been bothered by the fact that I've not traveled the world or even left the country, sans a trip to Cancun when I was in High School, but that was so muddled with tequila and strip clubs (sorry mom), that It doesn't REALLY count- that I have decided to take a adventure across the globe with the love of my life.
All I needed was a motivator, I needed someone to push me to travel and tell me, "Now's the time to do this, and we should totally do it". She came, she said those magic words and now we've got our bags packed, watching the calendar.
I had intentions on moving to New York City with my girlfriend. We are both really big into music and both have a spot in our hearts for the city. The opportunity escaped us after having our hopes deflated by the freaky rent prices there. We kind of ditched the New York idea immediately following a trip there and the mention of Thailand.
We had always tossed around the idea of traveling together. I knew I wanted to travel with her. The first place she mentioned was Thailand, and after 20 minutes on Craigslist, checking out places and prices, we were sold (prob not the best way to chose where you want to spend your life, but that's just how it happened, and this is my story). Thailand it was.
So here we are 6 months later, a ticket for Bangkok dated August 4th in our hands. When people ask us how long we will be in Thailand, we say "Indefinitely". We are ready for a life change, something that might coax us into never coming back.
I have been dreaming of the sand and the crystal beaches since we mentioned the move, I have also had nightmares of being locked up and having to deal with a girlfriend who has been kidnapped by some crazy python handler, but those are just dreams.
The truth is, I have never been so excited and nervous at the same time for anything in my life. Right, now as I sit on my couch in South Knoxville looking out the window at the homemade bird feeders we made, on a hot Sunday afternoon, it blows my mind to think that in a little under two months, I might be laying in the sand with the tide riding up my mini bathing suit, with some concoction of a random Thai's design to sip in one hand, watching long-tailed boats float over the horizon, holding the love of my life in the other.
I expect to be shocked, excited, impressed, disappointed, lost, scared, found, happy, comfortable, uncomfortable, drunk, frightened, enlightened, ready to come home, ready to stay forever- all at different times on this journey.
But one thing that will never change will be when I am an old man, maybe back in South Knoxville, sitting on my porch in a rocking chair with my old wife, widdling some crazy little thing old men on porches widdle, I will be able to look over to my wife and ask, "Remember that time we went into that local bar in Thailand and we saw that Thai Prostitute perform that "Ping-Pong show?" I am glad we shared that moment together."
And she will say, "Brock that's disgusting" and then smile a little bit.
